Some holiday memories begin with something you planned months in advance. Others begin simply because you decide to try something different while you’re there. During their stay at Mulia Resort Bali, two families travelling together decided to make their holiday even more memorable with something uniquely connected to the island. For their Mulia Resort Bali photoshoot, they chose a traditional Balinese costume experience they could all enjoy together.

And with two energetic boys involved, it quickly became much more than simply dressing up and posing for photographs.
A Different Kind of Experience in Bali
The experience began before we even took the first photograph.
Our team brought the traditional Balinese clothing and accessories directly to Mulia Resort and helped everyone get dressed, from arranging the different pieces to adding the finishing touches.
It’s one of the parts of our Balinese costume experiences that we particularly love. Our local team doesn’t simply help our guests get dressed – we can also explain the different elements they’re wearing and share a little about the traditions behind them.
For the children especially, this makes the photoshoot feel less like something the adults have arranged and more like an experience they’re part of themselves.
And judging by these two boys, staying serious for very long was never really going to be an option.

Exploring Mulia Resort Through the Photoshoot
One of the things that makes Mulia Resort such a beautiful location for photography is the variety of settings within the property.
We began among the resort’s elegant interiors before moving through its tropical gardens and pathways, eventually making our way towards the beach.
Each setting created something completely different.

The architecture provided a beautiful backdrop for photographs of the whole group. The tropical gardens gave us quieter moments for couples and individual portraits. And once we reached the beach, the boys had plenty of space to forget about the camera altogether.

Some of our favourite photographs from the session came from exactly those moments – playing in the sand, challenging each other, laughing with the adults, and simply being themselves.
Traditional Doesn’t Have to Mean Formal
Traditional Balinese clothing can look incredibly elegant, but that doesn’t mean the photographs themselves need to feel formal.
We always want the personalities of the people we’re photographing to come through.
So alongside the more classic portraits, we encouraged everyone to move, laugh, play and interact naturally.
The boys wrestled and played on the beach. The couples had their own moments together. The two friends played with colourful traditional fans among the gardens. And, of course, everyone came together for photographs of an experience they had shared during their time in Bali.

The result was a collection that felt unmistakably Balinese, while still feeling completely like them.
A Unique Experience for Families and Friends
Balinese costume photoshoots are often chosen by families, but this session was a lovely reminder that the experience can be just as much fun when you’re travelling with friends.
Two couples holidaying together. Children growing up alongside one another. Friends sharing a trip to Bali and deciding to do something they probably wouldn’t do anywhere else.
That’s part of what makes this kind of photoshoot special.
You’re not simply creating photographs of what everyone looked like on holiday. You’re creating another experience within the holiday itself – and one that everyone gets to share.
Whether you’re visiting Bali with your family, travelling with friends, or holidaying together with several families, a Balinese costume photoshoot can become a memorable part of your time on the island.

Bringing the Balinese Costume Experience to Your Hotel
One of the nicest things about arranging a Balinese costume photoshoot during your holiday is that you don’t necessarily need to turn it into another excursion.
For this group, the experience happened right where they were staying.
Our Dreams Studio Bali team brought the costumes and accessories to Mulia Resort, helped everyone get ready, and photographed them around the beautiful surroundings of the resort.
Your hotel becomes part of the memory itself – a place where you’ve already been relaxing, swimming, having breakfast together and enjoying your holiday suddenly becomes the backdrop to a completely different experience.
And when you’re travelling with children, keeping everything close to where you’re staying can make the experience considerably easier.

Not Just for Balinese Costume Photoshoots
Of course, you don’t need to wear traditional Balinese clothing to have your holiday photographed at Mulia Resort.
Family photoshoots, couple sessions, anniversaries, surprise proposals and other special occasions can also be photographed in your own clothing, creating an entirely different look while making the most of the resort’s architecture, tropical surroundings and beachfront setting.
For these friends, however, choosing Balinese costume added something different to their holiday.
They didn’t simply leave Bali with photographs of where they stayed or what they saw.
They left with photographs of something they experienced together.
